Camagüey, Nov 6 - The province of Camaguey, located in eastern Cuba, has organized several activities, in occasion of the World Urbanism Day, to be held this Sunday.

The date is an opportune time to encourage actions for the common good, like building parks and recreational grounds, remodeling other areas, opening new works for the urban development and adopting measures to prevent pollution.

Our city is characterized by its many attractions from the town planning point of view, where narrow and zigzagging streets, leading to squares and plazuelas, abound. Camaguey, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site last year, is also charming for it resembles a medieval city, contrasting with the almost perfectly rectangular layout of its urban center.

José Rodríguez Barrera, who heads the Office of the Historian of the City, adds that for the importance of this issue, the people of Camagüey will join to the international commemoration of the World Urbanism Day this Sunday.

The urban progress does not necessarily entail to fill empty spaces with buildings, but to construct thoroughly in order to guarantee those areas where nature should prevail. That is why the town planners in Camagüey are working with their sights set on a less polluted world, where air and sun light enter to all housings.
