Havana, Oct 26.- The Cuban society faces a great challenge with people aging, but has in elderly citizens a great potential for the development of community, an expert stated Monday.

Raul Hernandez, expert of the Center for Demographic Studies at the Havana University, told a television program that those who have surpassed 60 years old can provide much to the country.

Cuba will have in 2025 about three million elderly people more than the current figure, with direct impact in the economic and social field.

"Aging is a privilege, we should not see older people with shame, it is necessary to give them care, love, and participation in daily life," Hernandez said.

Representatives of the so-called elderly in Cuba, where life expectancy has reached almost 78 years old, are generally in perfect health, stated the expert, who is over 70 years old. (Prensa Latina)
