Camagüey, Nov 26 - The application of new surgical techniques and procedures at Manuel Acunce Domenech Hospital allow to give specialized attention, on a far bigger scale, to persons affected by ophthalmological disorders in Camagüey.
More than three thousand patients of the whole province, suffering from these pathologies, mainly cataract and glaucoma, a figure that is higher compared to same period last year, recovered the sight.

Another reason which reaffirm the devotion and professionalism of the Camagueyan medical staff, is the incorporation of the laser in these operations, a technique that was not used in Camagüey in the ophthalmological discipline, and at present it is applied in the treatment of patients suffering from glaucoma, retina and cataract.

Doctor Elías Cardoso, chief of the Service of Ophthalmology, emphasized the advances of the refractory surgery of exciplex laser, technique that offers a better coverage in the affected area, reduces the postoperative upsets and avoids to transfer patients to Havana.
